SCA Garb is optional!

11am: Depart on a 50 minute hike. The hiking paths are not paved and may be challenging to strollers or wheelchairs depending on how recently it has rained.

12noon: Outdoor social. Bring your own lunch or snacks and a chair. There are a few first-come-first-served picnic tables. There are indoor flush toilets available in two different locations near the tables.

Location

Sandy Bottom is near the Hampton AMC 24 and Thomas Nelson Community College

Sandy Bottom Nature Park is easily accessible from I-64 at the Hampton Roads Center Parkway exit at the corner of Hampton Roads Center parkway and Big Bethel Road. Entrances are available on both roads, but please plan to use the one that allows you to turn right into the park. Turning left into it is difficult or impossible.

There is a small parking lot on the south side of the park road near Hampton Roads Center Parkway and a long parking lot on the north side of the road near all the park buildings. The red star on this map marks some picnic tables under trees at the western most end of the larger parking lot that we will try to assemble near. Park where you can find a spot.

Boat and kayak rentals are visible through the trees

We were unable to rent a pavilion, so we’ll be either using the open picnic tables or finding a shady spot to congregate at. Please bring a folding chair and your picnic lunch.
